Salad For Dinner – the NKI?

By on October 8, 2011

Ummm, salad for dinner?  Really?  Don’t worry, people.  This is no wimpy toss of greens.  We are placing together a hearty (yes, hearty) arranged salad in the style of Nice, France: a Salad Niçoise.  Let’s take a few liberties with the traditional bent, but conceptually we’ll enjoy our salad…

Wicked Good Corn Chowda

By on October 1, 2011

Like most everyone living in Downtown Manhattan, we aren’t from here.  Well, maybe the little one is.  But the Mrs. and I migrated from the land of the dropped Rs. We left our toasta in Worcesta, ya bastaad.  And I still occasionally say T-Pass instead of MetroCard.  So with…

Greek-Style Lamb Sliders. Opa! (can i say that?)

By on August 19, 2011

There’s not much wrong with these sliders.  I mean really.   Toasted brioche roll, oregano-seasoned lamb, black olive tapenade, feta cheese, tzatziki, tomato slice, pickled red onions and mint leaves.  All in a 4-bite package.  We did these on a Saturday night up on the roof deck with some…

When I was little, once in a while dad would splurge on the swordfish.  Out on the back patio.  Grilled up over charcoal with a slice of lemon.   Whenever I get sword now, it still feels like a special occasion.   One of my favorites is Cajun style…

Workin’ the Weeknight Dinner – Broiled Old Bay Salmon

By on July 15, 2011

No post last week, people.  I was with my best man (btw- another jarhead) at Cathedral Ledge dealing with unfinished business – a climb called “Recompense” that we backed off of some 8 years ago.  Notwithstanding the disturbing belay stance atop the 3rd pitch – blood-soaked from a climber…

One more 80’s food post? Cue the Man Quiche.

By on June 10, 2011

Did you think I might have one more 80’s food post?  Well, can I totally kill Home Sweet Home at the 2:00 a.m. after-party karaoke?   That’s what I thought.   So pop the Mötley Crüe cassette tape into the yellow plastic Walkman and head bang your way into the…

Pork Tenderloins on the Grill – Allegedly. March 2011

By on April 12, 2011

Ready to start the summer a bit early.   So let’s hit the shared grills on the roof deck.  The hitch – turns out the building doesn’t turn the gas on for the grills until April.  Would have been nice to have known that before I got up there ready…
